Get ready for a fruitful growing season! The N.C. Cooperative Extension, Gaston County Center is offering a variety of fruit plants for sale—perfect for home gardens, small farms, or anyone eager to enjoy homegrown goodness.

Available plants include:

Order Deadline: January 27, 2026
Pick-Up: Plants will be available the second week of February at the Gaston Citizens Resource Center in Dallas, NC. You will be notified of the exact dates and times once plants arrive.

Blackberry Plants $5 each

  • Apache – Largest thorn-less, upright berry available. Sweet, cone shaped berry. Ripens late season. Excellent quality. Cold hardy and high yielding. Self-fertile.
  • Natchez – Thornless, very large berry producer. Ripens early season – one of the first producers of the season. Self-fertile.
  • Ouachita – Sweet, thornless, erect, free-standing berry producer. Ripens mid-season. Self-fertile.

Raspberry Plants $5 each

  • Carolina Red – Produces heavy crops of large raspberries with fantastic flavor. Vigorous canes produce huge crops of large, firm raspberries and are more tolerant of root rot than Heritage. Ripens July through September. Self-fertile.
  • Heritage – Produces large, sweet berries quickly. Upright variety that does not require a trellis. Ripens July through September. Self-fertile.

Strawberry Plants $10/bundle of 25

  • Chandler – Produces delicious, large sweet fruit. The berries are very firm and excellent for home gardens. Berries are ideal for desserts and freezing. A June-bearer that will yield one year after planting. Self-fertile.
  • Sweet Charlie – Produces large sweet berries that taste like it has sugar on it, fresh from the field. Grows well in our area. Self-fertile.

Blueberry Plants $10 each

(You will need at least two varieties of blueberries in order to produce fruit.)

  • Brightwell – Early season fruit. Average fruit size, plants grow upright and open. Berries are light blue with excellent quality and flavor. Yields are high.
  • Powderblue – Large, light blue, sweet fruit. Ripens mid to late season. Upright plant with high production.
  • Premier – Deep blue, early to mid season variety with high quality, large berries. Fairly compact bush, at just 6 feet to 8 feet tall when fully grown.

Fig Trees $25 each

(bare root, gel packed & wrapped)

  • Brown Turkey – A very heavy producer of medium to large bell-shaped figs. Flesh is very sweet and tender and great to eat right off the tree. A heavy bearer that ripens in middle of the season up until late Fall. Self-fertile
  • Black Mission – Medium to large-sized fruit and a heavy bearer. Produces sweet, pear-shaped fruit that has purplish-black skin with strawberry-colored flesh and a rich flavor. Ripens summer to fall. Self-fertile

Elderberry Plants $15/Pair

  • Adam – A very popular intensely flavored fruit with rich aroma. Ripens late August. Extremely hardy. Produces soft, dark purple berries that make the best jams, jellies and wines. Produces white blooms in spring followed by a bounty of berries – ready for picking in August. Requires pollination provided by “John.”
  • John – Produces huge clusters of large, sweet, purplish-black berries that are wonderful for pies and delicious homemade wines. Grow in the sun or shade, even in wet conditions that would kill less hardy plants. Requires pollination provided by “Adam.”

Muscadines $10 each

(2 year bare root)

  • Triumph – Bronze variety. Production and vigor are good. Fruit can develop a slight reddish color when fully ripe. Fruit ripens early and has good flavor, high sugar content, and “crunchy” pulp. Self fertile.
  • Tara – Bronze variety. A large, self-fertile cultivar. It has good flavor, high sugar content, and a very dry stem scar. Self fertile.
  • Lane – Black variety. Produces medium to large fruit. Ripens early and has a crisp skin and firm pulp which adheres to the skin. Self fertile.
  • Ison – Black variety. Contains 19% sugar and has excellent size and production. Ripens early to mid-season. Produces large clusters and is great for all uses. Self fertile.
