The Extension Master Gardener℠ program of Currituck County is currently accepting applications for 2018. This year’s class will be offered in the evenings to accommodate gardening enthusiasts who are otherwise obligated during the day. Classes start on September 25 and run for 13 weeks, ending on December 20. Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center located at 120 Community Way in Barco. The fee for this program is $95 and no prior gardening experience is necessary.

Participants will learn about horticulture topics including botany, soils, fertilizers, houseplants, lawns, plant insects and diseases, weeds, pesticides, vegetables, fruits, landscape design, plant materials, wildlife, and volunteering. Classes are designed to prepare Master Gardener℠ volunteers for service as volunteers and resident plant experts with NC State Extension.

Pre-registration by Sept. 10 is required. You can register online or contact the office at 252-232-2261 to obtain an application. Payment must be received within 5 business days of registering and can be made in person at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center or by mailing a check made payable to “Currituck County” to 120 Community Way, Barco, NC 27917.
