What is an Extension Master Gardener Volunteer?

The Extension Master Gardener℠ program is an educational program designed to enhance public education in consumer horticulture. It provides educational assistance to the citizens of the county concerning lawns, fruits, vegetables, trees, and ornamentals through the utilization of a trained and supervised volunteer staff.

What does being an Extension Master Gardener Volunteer look like?

As an Extension Master Gardener Volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to be apart of the Master Gardener Group of Gaston County (additional fees apply) and network with other Volunteers in the area. The Master Gardener Group of Gaston County has been around since 1991 and has spent the last 30+ years establishing a connection with the community to share horticulture education and awareness.Other perks include:

How can I become an Extension Master Gardener Volunteer?

Our next Extension Master Gardener course will take place in a hybrid format from Feb 3 - April 21, 2026. Coursework will be completed virtually and there will be one in-person meeting per week.
