Cooperative Extension, in partnership with the Gaston County Public Library, is excited to offer Money Smart for Adults, a free, monthly workshop series designed to provide essential financial education. Whether you’re looking to manage your money more effectively, save for the future, or navigate the complexities of credit and debt, this series is for you.
What is Money Smart for Adults?
Money Smart for Adults, developed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), provides unbiased, practical financial education that is both relevant and actionable. Each session covers a wide range of topics that directly impact your everyday finances, including:
- Understanding your financial values and communicating with family about money
- Choosing the right financial products for your needs
- Creating and sticking to a savings and spending plan
- Managing your income effectively
- Using credit responsibly and understanding borrowing options
- Protecting your financial rights and safeguarding your money
- Recovering from financial setbacks and rebuilding credit
Whether you’re just beginning to manage your money or you’re looking for advanced strategies, this workshop has something for you.
Who Should Attend?
This program is perfect for adults who want to improve their financial literacy, gain better control over their finances, and develop a plan for their future. The workshop is designed for individuals who want to learn about budgeting, organizing financial documents, managing debt, and understanding credit reports. Even if you’ve attended financial workshops before, Money Smart for Adults offers fresh, practical insights and strategies that can help you make informed decisions about your finances.
According to Linda J. Minges, Program Facilitator for N.C. Cooperative Extension, “Many individuals across Gaston County can benefit from learning how to better manage their finances. The start of the New Year is the ideal time to launch this monthly workshop. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and learn from others.”
In-Person and Online Options
In-person: You can attend the workshop in-person at the Gastonia Main Branch Library, located at 1555 E. Garrison Blvd., Gastonia, on the second Monday of each month from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sessions will run from January through December 2025.
Webinar sessions: If you can’t make it to the library in person, you can still participate by joining the online sessions. Either way, you’ll gain valuable knowledge and practical skills to help you achieve your financial goals. Webinars are recorded and you can watch whenever most convenient to you!
