Gaston County Beekeepers Association is hosting its’ annual Beginners Beekeeping Course starting in January 2023. This is a 10-week introductory course designed to teach beekeeping basics such as:

  • Basic Bee Biology
  • Castes
  • Anatomy
  • Life-cycles & Pheromones 
  • Apiary Set-up
  • Wooden-ware & Tools/Equipment
  • Seasonal Hive Management
  • Honey Bee Diseases
  • Pests
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Strategy and Treatment Options
  • Harvesting and Extracting Honey

Door prizes will be provided throughout the semester, as well as raffles for items such as complete hive with bees. Seating for this course is limited. Preregistration is advised.

Tuition cost includes the following: 10 weeks of classroom instruction, Beekeeping For Dummies textbook, 2023 membership in Gaston County Bee Association (GCBA), 2023 North Carolina State Beekeeper Association (NCSBA) membership, and access to our mentor program.

In addition to this course, students will be able participate in our wooden-ware assembly workshop and both field days where participants will get hands on opportunity to work live bee colonies. The second field day includes a bbq/catered meal for students and their immediate family – at no additional cost. Students will also have the opportunity to purchase bees and wooden-ware at a discounted rate and to participate in our honey harvesting/extracting workshop in early July.

Dates: Mondays, January 23rd – March 27th (except Feb. 27th moved to Tuesday Feb. 28th)

Time: 7 – 9 p.m.

Course Fee: $95.00 + $4.00 credit card processing and convenience fee
