Collapse ▲Do you have a passion for cooking, eating, local food systems, or simply love all things food-related? If so, consider joining the Extension Master Food Volunteer (EMFV) program, with the new volunteer training program set to begin in February 2025.
What is the Extension Master Food Volunteer Program?
The Extension Master Food Volunteer (EMFV) Program is an educational initiative designed to enhance public understanding of nutrition, local foods, and food safety. The program trains volunteers to support N.C. Cooperative Extension’s Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) agents with food-related programming and outreach.
Much like the highly regarded Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program, the EMFV Program offers volunteers the opportunity to engage in a variety of community-centered projects. Volunteers receive 30 hours of core curriculum training, followed by 30 hours of hands-on shadowing with an FCS agent. These volunteers will play an essential role in supporting food-related programming, including cooking demonstrations, nutrition education, food safety classes, and more.
Benefits to You:
- Develop valuable skills: Learn cooking techniques, knife skills, nutrition, and food safety.
- Connect with the local food system: Build relationships with local farmers, food producers, and community organizations.
- Engage with like-minded individuals: Meet new people who share your passion for food and nutrition, both locally and statewide.
- Be part of impactful programs: Contribute to N.C. Cooperative Extension’s food, nutrition, and wellness workshops.
- Make a difference: Serve your community by educating and empowering others on nutrition and food safety.
Volunteer Opportunities Include:
- Conducting cooking demonstrations at farmers’ markets, churches, and other community locations.
- Providing educational outreach at health fairs and community festivals.
- Assisting with youth-based nutrition and cooking workshops offered by Extension.
How to Become an Extension Master Food Volunteer:
