Homesteading: Backyard Basics. Plant. Grow. Preserve. Eat. Saturday, January 21, 2023.
With individuals striving for a more self-reliant lifestyle, N.C. Cooperative Extension offers valuable resources to help you do just that. This workshop is designed for homesteaders, beginning farmers, established farmers looking to diversify and grow, agriculture enthusiasts, and everyone in between. 

Homesteading:  Backyard Basics is being presented by N.C. Cooperative Extension on Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Topics include backyard chickens and livestock, beekeeping basics, compositing, food preservation, specialty crops, and ways to extend the growing season.
The inclement weather make-up date is January 28
th.

Participants will have the opportunity to register in advance for two-morning sessions and one-afternoon session. All sessions will be held at the Citizens Resource Center, located at 1303 Dallas-Cherryville Hwy., Dallas, NC. Instructors include a variety of Extension staff with expertise in agriculture, horticulture, and food preservation: Burton Beasley,  Jim Burke, Julie Flowers, Payton Flowers, Craig Mauney, Linda Minges, Lara Worden, and Mary Yavelak. 

“Know-how related to gardening, meat production, and food preservation are essential to having a sustainable food supply,” said Worden, program coordinator and instructor. “This workshop offers a variety of Extension experts and resources to help individuals expand their homesteading skills.”

Registration fee is $40 per person – includes lunch and all session materials.
